Trump on Monday declared he’s taking over the Strait of Hormuz on Iran’s dime as the US reimposed a naval blockade on Tehran, and Iran responded with more strikes on the Gulf. We’re locked in a Groundhog Day revolving-door nightmare as the defining commitments of the MoU that “ended” the war continue to crumble. Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, joins the show to unpack latest developments, including what’s behind Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s pledge to avenge his father’s death.
Albanians have flooded the streets of Tirana nightly for more than a month in protest against a multi-billion-dollar luxury resort planned for protected coastland, backed by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, in what has come to be known as the Flamingo Revolution. But what started as an environmental movement to protect wetland breeding grounds has evolved into a full-blown national uprising with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama over what they call systemic corruption and a country sold out from under its own people. We’re joined by Dajana, an activist in Tirana, for the latest from the rebellion.
And it’s Marco Rubio in one corner, international law in the other as the US State Department announces a “whole-of-government campaign” to dismantle the International Criminal Court. It comes on the heels of a historic federal lawsuit brought by three ICC judges against the Trump administration arguing the US sanctions against them are unlawful. Will the warhawks stop at nothing to protect Israel from genocide accountability? Longtime human rights lawyer Craig Mokhiber joins the show to discuss.
