Chile Tried to Replace Pinochet-Era Constitution. Then Came the Fake News

Earlier this month, Chileans rejected a new progressive constitution in a plebiscite. Just two years ago voters had just approved in large numbers the drafting of a new constitution, and then overwhelmingly voted for progressive representatives to the Constitutional Convention. So what explains the sharp turn away from the process? Patricio Zamorano, political analyst and director at the Council on Hemispheric Affairs, explains what happened in the final plebiscite and what’s next for Chile.
