For decades, American soft power in Taiwan has run deeper than any military footprint could — shaping generations through an anti-communist education system, a pro-US media apparatus, and state-funded study abroad programs.

Dr. Chen Meei-shia, emerita professor of public health at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, joins Amanda Yee to reflect on her own political transformation, from a recipient of a US government fellowship on a path to join the Taiwanese elite to an active voice against imperialism.
